Hey. I know I'm such a slacker about blogging. It's just not too exciting for me to write about myself. But, here goes an update on my life...
-Still love my job down here in Baytown
-Training for the Austin Half-Marathon in February. It will be quite a challenge, since it's got a bunch of hills. I'm up to 10+ miles, so I know I can finish it, just don't know how great my time will be.
-I just started (last night) training with Houston Fit Adventure Racing. It is quite comical how I got into this. I bid on a gift certificate on a United Way online auction through work. I didn't realize (1) what I was bidding on or (2) how much I bid. So, I paid $50 for this gift certificate to participate in a training program. So, OK, I can handle that. Then I got an email from the organizer...I need a mountain bike (sorry, my $70 bike from Target is going to have to do), a kayak and paddle (yeah, I don't have one of those), a headlamp, a hydration system (water bottle will have to do), and a personal floatation device. What the heck have I gotten myself into?? Also, they training is on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:30 for 12 weeks!!! So, I thought about bailing, but one of my roommates encouraged me (i.e. she is egging me on because she loves laughing at the crazy messes I get myself into!) to go for it, so I am going for it. Last night's practice was trail running. I ran about 2 miles in like 40 minutes (insanely slow) because every 200 yards or so, we had to stop and do pushup or modified pushup/squats or bench presses. Did I mention that there was mud everywhere? I was doing pushups in mud. I was running in mud. Fortunately, I did not fall down in the mud, although I did come close. This coming Wednesday night is navigation practice. Oh yeah, here's the description of Adventure Racing: a multi-sport team activity usually involving trail running, mountain biking, paddling and orienteering. Races often include other "Mystery Events" that are unveiled mid-race. The core disciplines of adventure racing: running, biking, paddling or navigation. some of the fringe disciplines of adventure racing: rollerblading, scootering, climbing and ropes work and mystery events. Scootering! What the heck. Well, I will do my best to keep you updated on how this goes. I think I will survive it all.
